TNN    27 March 2023

Jaipur: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has proclaimed March 27 (Monday) as Black Day in solidarity with doctors from Rajasthan who are protesting against the Right to Health (RTH) Bill. The agency stated that they have decided to organize a black day on March 27 to protest against this bill. Additionally, they have requested solidarity for the doctors in the state from all the states.

The national organization has requested that its members meet with district officials and present a memo to be sent to the union government and state ministries. They added that they will also send an email showing their support for the Union government and Rajasthan authorities.

As part of the blackout, medical activities in every region of the state are being boycotted by private and resident doctors. Government doctors likewise abstained from work for two hours.

In response to the question of why doctors are protesting when the government claims to have acceded to all of their demands, Dr. Vijay Kapoor, secretary of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Society, which is leading the doctors opposition to the RTH bill, stated that if that were the case and if the representation and opinions made to the government had been in line with the sentiments and fraternity of the state, then why have thousands of doctors from all over Rajasthan been protesting for so long?

He warned that the medical profession is known for being meek. However, if the government does not drop the RTH bill, there will soon be a nationwide uprising.
